- Reed like perennial, reaches 1 metre.
- Flowers between may and july, should be planted between july and august.
- Grows best in shallow water of extremely moist soil.
- Lots of sunlight is important.
- Has many medicinal uses including:

- Use in love potions
- Laxative
- Hallucinogen counter
- Sedative
- Abortifacient - pregnant women must not use.
- And many others
- The powdered roots can be used as a spice in a pinch but it is not recommended due to the roots other qualities.
- Toxic if taken in large doses or used over a long time, so care must be taken.
